James F. West has been a North Shore resident for almost 20 years, from when his family moved to Staten Island from Brooklyn. In 2013 he earned his Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice, with a minor in Philosophy, from St. John’s University’s Staten Island campus. During his time working towards his degree, Mr. West was President and founding member of his fraternity’s chapter. He was also President and founding member of the St. John’s Justice Society, where he worked with faculty and administration to encourage outreach between St. John’s students and the local legal and law enforcement community.

In between his junior and senior years of college, Mr. West received an opportunity to intern for Marvel Entertainment, LLC in their legal department. Mr. West remained at Marvel until he left to attend law school in the late summer of 2013. During his time at Marvel, Mr. West worked on a wide array of media, from the comic books to the record-breaking movies, featuring Marvel’s classic characters.

Mr. West earned his J.D. from St. John’s School of Law. While there, Mr. West interned in the New York Supreme Court for Judge Eileen Rakower, the Intake Bureau of the Queens County District Attorney’s Office, and for Marvel Entertainment again. He was an editor of the Entertainment, Arts, and Sports Law Journal. He was also Internal Director for the Polestino Trial Advocacy Institute, where he coached and coordinated mock trial competitions between St. John’s Law students.

Mr. West was hired by this firm in January of 2016, and began working part-time in February of 2016. He started working full-time in August of 2016, after having taken time off to prepare for and take the July 2016 New York State Bar Examination. After passing the bar exam, Mr. West was admitted to practice law in the state of New York in December of 2016.

Mr. West works with Mr. Thomson in the Real Estate & Transactional Department. Currently, his representation primarily includes residential real estate, including home sales and purchases. He is an active member of the Eagles Alumni Business Group, a group dedicated to the networking of St. Peter’s alumni in the business community. Mr. West is active locally in the Republican Party, and has appeared on CNN’s Town Hall with Speaker of the House Paul Ryan.
